4 women NFT projects that are rocking the crypto world | Exodus

Girls just wanna have fun, too. And for International Women’s Day 2022, we’re shining the spotlight on some of the more prominent and promising NFT projects that are skewed towards women and their allies.

A whole slew of female-oriented NFT projects have burst onto the scene of late, ready to bring some colour and gender balance to the crypto world!

From witches to beautiful bosses and goth girls, check out these top women NFT collections that are invading the Metaverse.

World of Women

There’s no better way to kick off this list than with arguably the biggest of them all – World of Women (WoW). Launched in July 2021, WoW was one of the first women-led NFT projects to enter the market with 10,000 unique generated artworks of women profile pictures at the mint price of 0.07 ETH. The floor price has since leaped 2 decimal places to the right, reaching about 9 ETH at the time of writing.

Reasons for its sold-out success? Besides being among the first, WoW was a breath of fresh air in the scene, emphasizing inclusivity, diversity and equality. The project now counts high-profile celebrities including Reese Witherspoon, Shonda Rhimes and Eva Longoria as part of its growing community, and has even donated over a quarter of a million dollars in royalty sales to women charities, including She’s The First and Too Young to Wed.

Artist Yam Karkai said this about her work: “The mission of my art was always to showcase women, and put them in the spotlight, and bring more diversity into the space.”

Auction house Christies in London recently sold a WoW NFT for $750,000 to MoonPay. A new partnership with Reese Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, is also looking to turn the WoW into a TV series, live events and stories, while KPMG Canada recently announced it has bought WoW NFT#2681.

Similar to Bored Ape Yacht Club, WoW is represented by Guy Oseary for licensing across a range of media including film, TV, music, gaming and consumer products.

The mystical and mystery come together with one of the more alluring and beguiling women NFT projects out there: Crypto Coven. The collection began as a band of 3,333 witches in the weird wilds, each with a unique name, archetype, astrological chart and magical power. Profile traits seem to have been extremely well thought out; Skin color – usually a source of contention – are labeled in hues such as ‘twilight’, ‘day’, ‘night’ or ‘midnight’. The collection has since grown to nearly 9,800.

The highest witch sale to date was $31.8k in January 2022. However, unlike typical NFT projects, Crypto Coven discourages price talk, rarity comparisons and other speculative debate. From their Discord:

“The value of a WITCH is subjective, and their worth lies in the eyes of those who behold them, so we don’t talk about calculated rarities, floor prices, and the external perceived value of the collection in this Coven.”

Instead, the community encourages swapping and has been known to generously gift NFTs to individuals without the means to purchase one.

Crypto Coven is well supported by a broad base of creatives, developers and builders in the crypto and Web3 space, including Linda Xie of Scalar Capital and Stani Kulechov Founder of Aave.

Championing female empowerment, Boss Beauties is another highly popular women-led NFT collection of 10,000 unique profile pictures, which sold out in an hour after mint. As of the date of this article, the average price of one Boss Beauties NFT is $5,000.

Featuring strong and independent women portrayed in various roles of leadership, the collection also entitles NFT holders access to exclusive events such as VIP SuperBowl parties. Supporters of the project include Randi Zuckerberg, Olympian Morgan Lake and Kerry Washington.

One of the biggest highlights for Boss Beauties is the launch of the limited edition Boss Beauties Role Models 1/1 NFT collection in partnership with the United Nations for International Women’s Day 2022. The collection featuring iconic women such as Frida Kahlo, Maya Angelou and Ruth Bader Ginsburg is being sold via a charity auction, with proceeds going to fund scholarships for women and girls.

Lisa Mayer, Founder and CEO of Boss Beauties said, “Having a collection with such a strong and inspiring message be the first NFT art collection to display at the United Nations is truly monumental. Most importantly, it resembles our larger mission to empower Women and Girls at the forefront of technology, leadership, and creativity.”

Monochromatic with a refreshing side profile angle, Sad Girls Bar stands out from other profile pic collections with a moody, goth sensibility. The project description on the website reads:

“There is a place in this damn city, a shelter for the dark souls. You could find a companion here and have something to drink. Late night, you walk the street, it’s so cold and raining…”

Designed as a home for lost souls wandering in the dark streets, the project’s ultimate dream is to open a virtual Sad Girls Bar in the Metaverse for like-minded people to gather and seek solace.

The collection minted for 0.07 ETH from August to September 2021, with a floor price now of around 0.165 ETH at the time of the article. The most expensive Sad Girls Bar NFT sold was Sad Girl #9999 was sold for $15.2k in February 2022.

Sad Girls Bar is created by talented female artist Glam Beckett known for her dark and melancholic style. The 10,000 collection even comes with its own official companions, the Skeletongues and The Sad Cats.
